Preschool Gymnastics Lesson Plans

Preschool gymnastics is equal parts movement, imagination and structure. The best classes feel like play but quietly build the shapes, strength and body awareness that everything else is built on.

A preschool class that works

  1. Circle time (3–4 min). Names, a song, and a quick body-parts warm-up to settle the group.
  2. Movement warm-up (5 min). Animal walks — bear, crab, bunny, frog — that double as strength and coordination work.
  3. Station circuit (20–25 min). Three or four stations: a bar to hang and swing, a beam to walk with shapes, a wedge to roll, and a floor spot for jumps and shapes. Small groups rotate on a timer.
  4. Big-toy or trampoline (5 min). Controlled jumping for confidence and air awareness.
  5. Goodbye ritual (2 min). Stamps, a stretch, and one thing they did today.

Skills hiding inside the fun

Tips for keeping the group with you

Keep instructions to a single cue, use names constantly, and keep waiting lines to almost zero — more stations, smaller groups. Rotate themes weekly (space, jungle, superheroes) over the same skill progression so it feels new while the learning compounds. KINETIC includes preschool and foundation plans with these circuits ready to run.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a preschool gymnastics class be?

Most run 45 minutes. Attention spans are short, so keep segments to a few minutes each and keep everyone moving.

What skills do preschool gymnasts learn?

Body shapes, basic strength through animal walks and hanging, balance on low beams, forward rolls, and simple jumps — the foundations for every later skill.

How many kids per coach in preschool gymnastics?

Smaller ratios keep classes safe and engaged; many gyms aim for around 4–6 preschoolers per coach depending on age and space.
